About Daria Klemick

Daria Klemick took her first Ukrainian Dance class when she was 6 years old with the Iskra School of Ukrainian Dance Academy, based in Whippany, New Jersey. The Iskra School of Ukrainian Dance Academy was founded in 1996 as one of the schools of the late Roma Pryma Bohachevsky, who was a renowned teacher and choreographer. When Roma Pryma Bohachevsky passed away in 2004, Andrij Cybyk became the artistic director of Iskra. Ms. Klemick studied Ukrainian dance with Mr. Cybyk for many years and eventually he invited her to join the Iskra Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, a semi-professional extension of the Iskra Academy. Ms. Klemick also was asked to be an assistant teacher in the Academy, and for many years she worked with younger students to share her love of dance with them.

When she was in high school, Ms. Klemick was also invited to join the Syzokryli Ukrainian Dance Ensemble based in Manhattan, New York. Syzokryli was founded in 1978 by Roma Pryma Bohachevsky, and is currently under the artistic direction of Orlando Pagan. Syzokryli's repertoire consists of regional folk dances which emulate the rich history of Ukrainian dance and culture. Dancers of the ensemble train in classical ballet, modern dance, and Ukrainian character dance. With Syzokryli, Ms. Klemick has performed across the tri-state area, including at Symphony Space on Broadway.

Daria Klemick began attending the Roma Pryma Bohachevsky Ukrainian Dance Camp at the Soyuzivka Ukrainian Heritage Center in Kerhonkson, New York, when she was only 10 years old. Having fallen in love with Ukrainian Dance, she continued to attended the camp each summer until she was old enough to attend the Roma Pryma Bohachevsky Ukrainian Dance Workshop, a more intensive version of the camp for more advanced dancers. Eventually, she was asked to worked at the camp as a counselor, where she assisted in taking care of the younger dancers. Over the course of many years, she worked her way through the ranks from counselor in training all the way to senior counselor. She also served as assistant dance instructor and helped develop choreographies for the younger dancers.
